What is liquid silicone rubber (LSR)?

Liquid silicone rubber (LSR) is a two-part, platinum-catalyzed silicone elastomer designed for liquid injection molding. It offers excellent flexibility, durability and resistance to a wide range of temperatures and providing biocompatibility and chemical stability. LSR is widely used for high-volume production of precision parts in medical devices, in which consistent quality and safety are critical.

LSR applications & uses

Our liquid silicone rubber elastomers are well-suited for a variety of specialized medical applications, including:

  • Intricate designs and close-tolerance parts; can be used for spacers, sheets, housing or protection
  • Mesh or fabric coating
  • Injection molding of precision and intricate parts of medical devices (e.g., O-rings, stoppers and closures)
  • Short-term implants, such as wound drains and gastric feeding tubes that are in place for <30 days
  • Class III medical devices or long-term (90+ days) implantation
